London-based deep-soul artist shares his brand new single ‘Dirty Little Secret’ this January.
‘Dirty Little Secret’ sees Charles at his most open and honest, with dark strings and piano providing a backbone to a tale of pain and strife. Taking shape around a very personal experience, the track explores themes of sexuality, prejudice and identity, meanwhile, offering an intimate insight into the less tasteful side of the commercial world.
The track is a fine demonstration of Charles’ sophisticated penmanship, stirring feelings of vulnerability and sincerity in his lyrics which are further illuminated by his raw-edged vocals. The track is a true unveiling not only of Charles’ inner self but of the sheer creativity capacity in this budding artist, confidently setting him as a firm one to watch this year.
In his own words, Charles explains; “I wrote ‘Dirty Little Secret’ about 4 years ago, in the response to being in the shadows for 2 years with my long-term partner. Not because of the obvious reason like the song may give off, but to hide his sexuality and our relationship from the public.
This track is a message to those companies/productions that advise hiding who you are will benefit your career. I’m here to say hiding who you are will never help your career, as there is nothing to hide. In a time of feeling so angry, isolated and embarrassed of the lie we held for a short time, ‘Dirty Little Secret’ was written.”
