Award winning duo Einangran hopes to strengthen bond with Iceland through their new single ‘Koyri Heim’ (Driving Home) is the first single from the award-winning Faroese duo Einangran’s upcoming debut album. Einangran consists of Heiðrik á Heygum and Lea Kampmann, who both have strong roots in Iceland where the single was recorded in collaboration with producers Janus Rasmussen (Kiasmos/Bloodgroup) and Sakaris Joensen (Sakaris/Boncyan) at their Reykjavík studio.
The result is a dreamy disco song intertwined with a synth scape reminiscent of the 80s. Lea: “The song is called ‘Koyri Heim’ which means ‘Driving Home’, and it’s about someone who chooses to drive back home to a person, ex-partner, who they regret they broke up with. The video captures the moment where the narrator drives back home to their beloved ex”.
Einangran’s debut album is planned for release later this year and follows up their self titled EP released in 2020, which includes their award winning song ‘Kanska’.
The name Einangran means ‘isolation’ in Faroese, which depicts perfectly how the duo came to be. Heiðrik, an LHÍ art graduate, was only 3 days away from moving back to Iceland and Lea was on her way to visit her mother in Copenhagen when the first Corona lockdown brought them together in the same apartment in Denmark. The two solo singer/songwriters decided to team up and, for the first time in their career, write music in their native tongue which is only spoken by roughly 72.000 people.
Heiðrik: “I have always dreamed about doing something Faroese but I never really dared and Lea is much more brave than I am regarding Faroese. She really pushed me and I’m really happy about what we got out of it.”
What followed was their first self titled EP which includes the song ‘Kanska’ that won the award for Best Song by the Faroe Music Awards, and a performance for the Queen of Denmark upon her visit to the Faroe Islands.
Through their new single and accompanying video for ‘Koyri Heim’, they hope to strengthen the bond between Iceland and the Faroe Islands.
Heiðrik: “We have so much in common with Iceland. You guys are like our big brother. Both in art and music. We hope to create a creative bridge somehow. We could make so many great collaborations.“
Lea concludes: “Yes, we have so much in common that it almost seems weird that we haven’t done anything about that yet”.
The duo hopes that this will be the start of something amazing and are planning to tour Iceland upon the release of their debut album, expected later this year.
