(New York, NY) March 1, 2022 – Eva Sita, the successful and accomplished Ivorian musician, brings to light her newest pop and R&B inspired single, “Joon,” based on a song she wrote for someone she used to date as a bet. The song takes on the sounds of Beyonce and Dua Lipa with Latin vibes.
The song has 6 instruments, with Eva at the piano, that include violin, djembe, drums, guitar, and bass. Eva sings and speaks in 3 languages and accompanies herself on just as many instruments, one including the Kora, a traditional African string instrument.
The story of the song is not one that you’d expect: it started with a football game. Eva and her date bet on a football game, if she won, he had to buy her dinner, but if he won, she had to write him a song. She ended up losing and “Joon” was created.
While she and the guy she was seeing at the time broke up, she kept “Joon” and rewrote it to be about leaving a relationship when you don’t feel like it can go further: it’s about being ok to not jump into a relationship too fast. She called the song “Joon” in homage to the guy she initially wrote it for, who was Persian, and in their culture, it’s a nickname that you give to someone you’re affectionate towards.
“I first started with chords, I chose some ‘spicy’ triad chords and decided to play them with a Latin rhythmic piano comping,” says Eva. “I then sang some melodies borrowing from the harmonic minor scale (often used in middle eastern music) as I really wanted to give off the ‘vibe’ of the Persian guy I was writing this song for. It was a funny experience to write such a nice and honest breakup song.”
