Boundary pushing Hackney R&B collective GRAMN. offer their first release of 2022 – the sleek, emotive “Long Way Down” feat. BAELY.
With “Long way Down” the 1st release from their upcoming new EP (following last year’s “Glow Up” which saw Aux sing in perfect Spanish), the track’s addition of rising R&B prospect BAELY gives us a combination of talents that hits with the glossy performance of a late-night classic: soft R&B soundscapes guided by a soaring vocal pairing and Aux’s witty lyricism taking the track to an epic duet crescendo.
Speaking on the track, Aux states: “LWD is a big F*** you to my ex. “Take the Long Way Down to hell” type ish. We went into studio not even knowing we would need/want or even have a feature until we realised BAELY was the missing link in this song. We asked him if he would bless us with his voice and words and thank goodness he said yes! A few sessions later and we had it, a song that talks about heartbreak, anger, loss and the fact that through it all, there’s a silver lining, and a true love that makes it all a little less hurtful…”
The fast-rising London collective – fronted by singer Aux and rounded out with producers and multi-instrumentalists James Robertson and Johnny Tomlinson – have been building serious attention across the past year as one of the most innovative and textured acts coming out of the city right now.
Their combination of tightly-wound R&B with Aux’s gifted vocal and flamboyant persona quickly carving them their own lane, attention coming swiftly across the likes of COMPLEX, WONDERLAND, GUAP, GAL-DEM and THE BLUES PROJECT as well as BBC R1Xtra.
The announcement of GRAMN.s forthcoming third EP KillaGRAMN. and news of a headline London show this year will continue the trajectory and incessant workrate of an act building a reputation as one of the brightest examples of current home-grown talent. Expect more waves this year as GRAMN. continue to carve their names into the landscape.
