In 2008 Oliver was not only a finalist on Canadian Idol, but declared “one of the most memorable moments in the history of the show” by Christine Leslie, Music Supervisor at TA2 Music. Following his meteoric Canadian rise, Pigott has shared the stage with numerous generational legends including Gordon Lightfoot, Joe Bonamassa, Colin Hay and David Wilcox and recorded in some of the most iconic studios in the world.
Globally known for his transportive, immersive lyricism, it wasn’t long before the multifaceted storyteller received recognition for his score writing; winning “Best Original Score” and “Best Original Soundtrack” for his work on the feature film “Los Angeles” and landing his original song, “Alien Like You” on the internationally syndicated television series, “Being Erika”.
Now, backed with the international momentum generated by his unparalleled storytelling and years of hard work, talent and passion, Oliver Pigott is stepping into the U.S. Americana music scene with the release of his unforgettable new single, “Eyes My Daddy Gave Me”, available everywhere for streaming now.
“It’s time to make something of myself in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave,” Pigott told his management team after moving to the United States in 2020.
“Eyes My Daddy Gave Me” paints an audible image of how to walk through life with a deep appreciation of who and where you come from. The third verse, “For all the travels and troubles that face me I’ll lead the fight, cuz I see with the eyes my daddy gave me,” perfectly expresses how being grounded in your roots provides the strength you need to walk into your future.
The single’s soundscape only reinforces its themes, creating a fully immersive experience for the listener. The smooth, rich tone of Pigott’s vocals mirror the stability that comes from living a grounded life, while the rhythmic, joyous instrumentation reflects the exciting, unknown nature of what is yet to come.
Drawing inspiration from his own personal life, Pigott crafts a beautiful image of the meaning of fatherhood and generational love. “Having lost my father to cancer when I was eight, music was my way of remaining connected to his musical spirit,” Pigott explained, “Eyes my Daddy Gave Me partly speaks to my journey as a boy and man growing up without an earthly father.”
After the birth of his twin boys, Pigott’s understanding of the significance of fatherhood completely changed. He shared, “I understand that I can be a light for my sons and wife in the way I choose to live. It is the responsibility of a good father to lead by example.” This theme is the foundation of “Eyes My Daddy Gave Me”.
