Fresh off the back of his recent US tour with rising vocalist, Ashe, indie-pop singer and songwriter Gavin Haley has teamed up with artist Mokita to release “It’s Getting Worse”, out today via Red Bull Records.
Laced with emo-tinged chord progressions and swelling melodies, Gavin and Mokita’s vocals gently weave throughout, intertwining to create a wistful and melancholic collaboration. Lamenting on the feelings of falling in love, “It’s Getting Worse” is a melding of both artists’ sonic influences, gracefully playing with pop, indie and electronic-infused productions to create a lush, textured sound filled with introspective lyricism.
“‘It’s Getting Worse’ is about catching some mad feels,” says Gavin of his inspiration behind the track. “Like you’re completely falling for this person, and when it happens you feel helpless but almost a good type. It’s a wrap. That stuff will hit you outta nowhere, I swear.”
“I’ve been a fan of Gavin’s music for a while, and so when I was asked to do a collaboration with him it was a no brainer,” says Mokita of the collaboration. “I was sent the demo of the song and immediately felt a vibe with it, so I recorded the vocals while I was home for the holidays at my parents’ house. I love working on records where it feels like there’s no egos involved. The process was quick and easy, so I’m excited about the record and happy I got asked to be involved.”
Gavin Haley brings a genre-bending approach to his body of work, fusing his own personal experiences into his music to create a narrative that feels universally relatable to all audiences. A former professional cyclist turned musician, Gavin’s approach to music lies in detailed storytelling and channeling raw emotions into well-crafted examinations of faith and optimism.
With over 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone, last year Gavin released his debut EP, Long Game on Red Bull Records, which featured the standout single “The Way I Am (feat. Ella Vos)”. Following a successful North American tour with Ashe, Gavin recently released his Half Evil mixtape, and is set to perform across the US supporting Tate McRae throughout 2020.
