Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi premieres the video for the track, “Hold Me While You Wait” today on Vevo. The video was directed by Pilgrim.
“‘Hold Me While You Wait’ is a song I wrote about the uncertainty of being in a relationship when your partner isn’t sure what they want, says Capaldi. There’s an impending hopelessness to the whole thing, on both sides, when they’re not sure whether they want to be in that relationship or not, for me it’s one of the most desperate places you can find yourself in.”
Capaldi has scored his first U.S. Platinum single with “Someone You Loved,” which has earned one million equivalent song units. The song shattered records throughout Europe and is Platinum or greater in a total of eight countries. “Someone You Loved” spent a nearly unprecedented seven weeks at No. 1 on the U.K. Official Singles chart and continues to climb on the Billboard Hot 100, entering the Top 20. Cumulative worldwide streams of the song have surpassed 900 million and it recently topped the global Shazam chart. Combined global views of the official video have surpassed 105 million.
“Someone You Loved” is from Capaldi’s debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, which has achieved over one million global adjusted album sales including over one billion combined streams. It topped the U.K. Official Albums chart for six weeks and is the fastest-selling UK debut of 2019 with 90,000 albums sold in the first week. Robert Christgau, reviewing for Noisey, awarded the album an A- and hailed it as “a feat of uncommon emotional intelligence.”
The 22-year-old artist made his U.S. late-night television debut on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in June. The following week, he performed “Someone You Loved” on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and, in a first for the show, Corden invited Capaldi back to perform for a second night in a row.
Capaldi’s North American fall tour is nearly sold out. His March 2020 tour of the UK and Ireland sold out in mere seconds, making him the first artist in history to sell out arenas prior to the release of a debut album.
Capaldi was hailed as a 2018 Vevo DSCVR Artist To Watch and a 2019 Vevo LIFT Artist, longlisted for the BBC Sound Of 2018 Poll, and won Breakthrough Artist of the Year honors at the Scottish Music Awards. He was nominated for the BRIT Awards Critics’ Choice award and named an MTV UK PUSH Ones To Watch artist. Capaldi has toured with Ed Sheeran, The Killers, Bastille, Rag’n’Bone Man, Niall Horan, and Sam Smith, and performed at such festivals as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Firefly, Mountain Jam, Splendour in the Grass, Fuji, and Osheaga.
