Rising Ethiopian-born Montreal rapper Naya Ali has enjoyed her biggest summer tour run thus far in her young career, which has seen her performing at some of Canada’s biggest festivals including Canadian Music Week, NXNE, FEQ 2019, and Osheaga Festival, with further performance stops at Festival de Musique Émergente, Up Here Festival and OUMF 2019, among others. Naya Ali is excited to finally unveil the captivating new music video for her latest single “Get It Right” that premiered with the UK’s Clash Magazine .
At last year’s MURAL Festival, Naya opened for Pusha T and Playboi Carti, and this month she became the first female rapper and the only Anglo rapper from Quebec to perform at Osheaga Festival, headlined by Childish Gambino and Janelle Monae. Signed to Coyote Records/Universal Music, Naya Ali’s 2018 track “Ready To Go” has over 15 million views on YouTube as part of Parks Canada’s “Memories Await You” campaign.
Recalling the inspiration behind the “Get It Right” video, Naya says: “The visuals are about breaking free from the ‘sunken place’. I felt like I was trapped for so long in a state of mind that had me forget who I really was, so I had to break free and escape by killing a part of myself that I had outgrown. The dark and symbolic visual is a Kanye-esque canvas, inspired by Stanley Kubrick meets Jordan Peele.”
