Featuring four new tracks, Dancing For The Answers marks the first new music from Nick since the release of his sophomore album Wake Up Now last year. Two tracks were recorded alongside long-standing collaborator and producer Dan Carey in London, and two more with Wake Up Now’s producer Ethan Johns out in Wiltshire. The four tracks feel like four epic journeys in their own right, with Nick and his band steering them. It is available digitally and on limited edition 12” vinyl.
Describing the EP, Nick explains:
“’Dancing For The Answers’ and ‘Give It To Kali’ came from a week’s work at Dan Carey’s studio in South London last May, where we abandoned our planned schedule in favour of voyages into jams unknown, free-form playing and the daily micro-dosing of sacramental cactuses.
“The results surprised us both and are two of the most precious tracks either of us feel we’ve ever made. A significant detail for me was the setting aside of my usual acoustic guitar in favour of a Mya-Moe baritone ukulele that I play on both tracks.
“Lyrically, ‘Dancing For The Answers’ appears on my latest album Wake Up Now as the song ‘Transform Your Game’ after David Bowie, in a dream visitation, made things clear to me and offered a little direction. ‘Give It To Kali’ uses a sample of one of my heroes Ram Dass. I had a lot going on in my life with the release of the ‘difficult’ second album, fathering young babies and shedding old skins. Ram Dass’ words about offering your struggles to the goddess Kali (who feeds from our impurities and our negativity), spoke to me powerfully and I’m honoured to use them in this track. My hope is you’ll listen to this song and perhaps offer yours up too.
The other two cuts on this EP, ‘The Doing Is Done’ and ‘Punta Cometa,’ come from the Wake Up Now album sessions of Oct 2016 at Real World Studios with Ethan Johns producing, and are very much in key with the rest of the album; layered, collaborative playing from the group of musicians and friends I assembled there at the time.”
