One of the UK’s hottest new bands, London’s Sea Girls, are excited to announce their first-ever U.S. tour; all dates are listed below. Today the band shares the video for their recent single “Violet” (which earned the coveted “Annie Mac’s Hottest Record In The World” upon release). The clip was directed by Michael Holyk and of it, the band notes, “’We may have songs with darkness, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look to the light. ‘Violet’ is wildly optimistic and for the video we find ourselves in an abandoned building and this time we aren’t feeling sorry for ourselves. The song is a little unhinged and so is the video.”
The proclamation that “guitar bands are coming back!” is as regular as Christmas yet 2019 feels different — there’s something behind all this guitar hype. Something exciting and relevant. Songs are soaring again, and riffs are relevant. And the UK’s Sea Girls are at the very forefront of this renaissance. The band consist of four lads from sleepy towns on the commuter belt, now holed up together in London. Named after a misheard Nick Cave lyric, the band is vocalist and guitarist Henry Camamile, guitarist Rory Young, drummer Oli Khan and bassist Andrew Dawson. Since their inception they have been filling ever-growing rooms with kids all around the UK. Raw, escapist joy. Sweaty, innocent euphoria. Fevered attention from DJs at Radio 1, a spot in the BBC Sound of 2019 list (the only band nominated) and a major label deal with Polydor Records swiftly kicked the band’s 2019 in to gear. With three EPs to their name, the band have dropped a host of singles including the pneumatic, infectious punch of “Call Me Out,” “All I Want To Hear You Say,” “Damage Done,” and “Violet.”
In the UK, Sea Girls will play their biggest ever shows this autumn, with all dates now sold out. The tour includes a night at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town, London on October 10.
Sea Girls are bringing things forward to the pure joy of what a band should be. Great songs always win out, and Sea Girls write great songs.
