Vancouver is not a city that immediately jumps to mind when one thinks about pop music but Asian-Canadian singer/songwriter/producer aims to change that. It is, in fact, Vancouver’s scant music scene and non-existent pop music scene that galvanized Sydney to wear so many hats and that ‘can do’ spirit shines through in her music.
Following up on her 2018 release, “Bad“, Sydney once again invites viewers in to her 80’s inspired poptopia with her latest video, “Hear Me.” In keeping with her ‘girl power’ ethos, Sydney nabbed first-time director and fellow Vancouverite, Tamara Black, to create a visual that is replete with disco balls and heapings of camp that is equal parts “Pretty in Pink” and Kim Petras.
While Sydney may be a newcomer to the scene, the amount of work she has spent honing both her production and songwriting skills is evident in the high quality of everything she releases. No work needed on the voice, though. Sydney is a natural.
