Sunshine, beaches, and lustful getaways – summer is filled with many pleasures, but Nova Scotia’s T. Thomason is delivering the sweetest one yet. Introducing the summer’s newest sizzler, “Pleasure,” available for streaming and download everywhere today.
The earworm-worthy track follows Thomason’s vivacious kick off to the solstice season, which saw him headlining at Pride Toronto’s Trans March, receiving the Planned Parenthood Toronto Choice Award, and celebrating Canada Day at the nation’s capital as part of CBC’s live broadcast at Parliament Hill.
Opening with a gentle stroke of the keyboard and building up to flirty, danceable beats, Thomason’s crystalline vocals paint a sensual scene of a perfect summer’s day at a lover’s getaway. Alluding to a deeper representation of self-discovery and self-love, Thomason notes, “I wrote ‘Pleasure’ on the last day of summer 2017, on a bike ride from my former basement apartment in North End Halifax to Chocolate Lake. This was a time in my life when I was rediscovering self-care, joy, taking time to find beauty in the world and letting myself daydream. The solo lake trip felt like I was coming back to myself after a long time of just trying to get by and be okay. ‘Pleasure for the sake of pleasure’ became a mantra and then turned into this song.”
“Pleasure” emerges from Thomason’s continued collaboration with Toronto producer Dave Henriques (Iskwé, Justin Nozuka) which has developed the fresh pop sound that Thomason has grown into as he prepares for his debut full length record as T. Thomason, including his 2018 singles “Bliss” and “Loser,” which have amassed over 200K Spotify streams.
Earlier this year, T. appeared as one of 5 artists on an episode of CTV’s hit music-reality show The Launch, supported by mentors Scott Borchetta, Marie-Mai, and Sarah McLachlan. His song “Hope” was launched from the episode, and produced by fourth mentor Alex Hope (Troye Sivan, Tove Lo, Missy Higgins).
Taking us further into T.’s newly developed pop sound, “Hope” reached #4 on the Canadian iTunes Pop charts and #11 overall, gaining over 40k streams in the first 4 days. Quickly becoming a national anthem of empowerment, the track was chosen as the theme song for the Inside Out LGBT Film Festival’s 2019 sizzle reel.
With his new summer bop in hand, T. Thomason is currently on the road for a string of tour dates that will also see him performing at Festival D’Ete on July 5, Cavendish Beach Music Festival on July 6 and headlining Halifax Pride’s Gottingen Street Block Party on July 27.
