Inspired by the twisted tales of H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe, Richmond, Virginia rock band, The J.O.B. is taking Rock & Roll into the twilight zone with their new music video and accompanying single “Heart Is Hollow.”
“’Heart Is Hollow’ is a song about the lure and the perils of anonymous, no strings love,” said Jim O’Ferrell, the band’s singer/guitarist. “It’s nothing like any of the love songs we’ve written before.”
“Heart Is Hollow” starts with a pair of crunchy electric guitars pouncing out aggressively from the first note. They set the mood while Brian Penczak sets the pace from his drummer’s throne. He performs an acrobatic drum sprint punctuated with huge fills that propel us from one verse to the next.
Jason Crawford’s lead guitar surges throughout the song with enough ridiculous pedal effects and delicious feedback to make any listener feel pleasantly electrified.
Jared Merrill’s bass tone is dirty and provocative and it feels like Motörhead is in the room. O’Ferrell’s lively rhythm guitar and smooth vocals both energize and hypnotize. “Heart Is Hollow” is a new sound and a different kind of song from a band that unapologetically redefines itself with every new project.
Filmed, directed, and edited by bass player, Jared Merrill, the Heart Is Hollow music video was filmed in and around The J.O.B.’s band house and on the haunted trails of nearby Chimborazo Park in Richmond’s east end.
The J.O.B. (Jim O’Ferrell Band) from Richmond, Virginia is a band on a mission to connect with everyday people through their music. Originally formed in 2008 by Jim O’Ferrell (guitar, vocals) and Jason Crawford (lead guitar) to record songs Jim had written while deployed as a soldier overseas, the group has evolved into a powerful alternative rock & roll band. The J.O.B. is rounded out with Brian Penczak on drums and Jared Merrill on bass and backing vocals.
