Uppermost x Juani have released their new single ‘Pure’ on 14th June via Uppwind Records. The track sees a dynamic collaboration by French producer Uppermost, alongside young up-and-coming producer Juani, born in Bordeaux, France, and currently based in Los Angeles.
Uppermost’s prolific string of releases includes tracks on Sony BMG and Ministry Of Sound, and his own label Uppwind Records is fast becoming synonymous with high-powered collaborations and skillfully curated compilations – such as his recent release Uppwind on Air with official remixes by legendary french-touch producers Digitalism and nu-disco artist Satin Jackets.
Uppermost has garnered support from acclaimed publications such as BILLBOARD, VICE, COMPLEX, Your EDM, Clash Mag, Paper Mag, Earmilk and Magnetic Mag, and received support from tastemaker Youtube channels such as Mr Suicide Sheep – with over 50 million views and counting.
Born, raised and currently based in Paris, Behdad Nejatbakhshe is the man behind the Uppermost moniker. A combination of French/ Persian heritage has contributed to his versatility as an artist, growing up influenced by the cultural mosaic of traditional Persian music as well as an affinity for French Touch. The result is an artist and label-boss committed to creating music fueled with hope, passion and dreams of artistic emancipation.
Uppermost’s signature style has become his trademark, drawing inspiration from acts such as Daft Punk, Burial, Bonobo, John Hopkins, Apparat and Deadmau5. Throughout his career, Uppermost has combined eras, influences and genres to create a sound familiar, yet uniquely his own. ‘Pure’ continues in that tradition, drawing parallels to elements Yuksek, Burial, Breakbot, or the deep emotional bass beats of Kavinsky and Klimeks.
On ‘Pure’, Juani masterfully lays the foundation, and the track maintains a sense of spontaneity without sacrificing high standards of craft. Uppermost puts his spin on it, and as always, the results are consistently interesting, melodic, and effective. ‘Pure’ features hypnotic melodies, languid vocals cuts, and a buoyant, time-keeping beat that lulls listeners into the blissful ether.
22-year-old Juani is influenced by an array of genres, from disco to acid techno, to house. He is part of future bass/trap ensemble Bruit Rose (meaning “pink noise”). Juani says of the collaboration with Uppermost: “My idea for this track was to keep it pretty minimalist and let the melody tell the story through the song. After finishing the main idea, I sent it to Uppermost and he added a lot of magic to the track with his well-known signature sound. Working with Uppermost on this track is a huge achievement for me, like a dream coming to reality. I pumped Uppermost’s music in my headphones every single day during high school, and I still cannot believe that we are releasing this track together.”
