WIINSTON captures the seductive power of L.A. nights on the sparkling new single, “Lala,” released today by Capitol Records. The city itself emerges as a character on the rhythmic track, which pulses with an indelible, lilting refrain. “Lala” is now available for download/streaming HERE. Producer/songwriter Alfred Thomas and singer/songwriter Daniel Richards – the two longtime friends behindWIINSTON – write, record and produce most of their songs alone in Thomas’ one-room apartment.
WIINSTON says, “We paint the picture with feelings and moods and just play around until we like it. It all comes to us very intuitively and fast, and the lyrics are shaped as pictures before they are written down.”
WIINSTON’s three previous singles – “Rosa,” “Canada” and “Mio” – have nearly four million streams combined on Spotify. The duo made its Capitol Records debut in February 2018 with “Rosa.” Earmilk praised the song and accompanying video as “full of modern soul” and predicted, “The Danish group are slated for a massive breakout in the States.”
The hypnotic “Canada” landed on Spotify’s tastemaker playlist Weekly Buzz soon after its release and also appeared on multiple New Music Friday playlists. The Line Of Best Fit hailed it as “an expertly crafted R&B track taking cues from the pop world with its infectious hook.” “Mio,” a hip-hop inspired song with a dreamy melody, prompted Clash Magazine to observe, “Bristling with flouro-soaked tones, the sheer ambition is something to behold.” All three tracks were accompanied by videos created by the duo, which showcase their image-driven artistry.
